Fremont Farmhouse: Fremont Center, NY

About The Property

Fremont Farmhouse is being offered concurrently with Fremont Cottage, another property across the street that has the same owner. They may be sold together or separately.

Sometimes it’s handy when others do all the work for you. And that’s the case with the reimagining of this wonderful 1900s farmhouse, which underwent a gut renovation over the last couple of years that not only upgraded all the, well, guts (like electrical, heating, plumbing), but reallocated spaces for the way we live today.

The result is a pleasing period home with heart pine floorboards, that features a center stairwell and a back stairs that runs to the kitchen. There are three nicely proportioned bedrooms awash with natural light, and two magnificent, entirely new bathrooms (one on the ground floor, with a claw foot tub and glass enclosed shower, and upstairs with a shower). A generous space was created for a luxurious laundry room and closet wall, while the pretty TV room is just down that upstairs hallway. And all of this is wrapped up in a gorgeous, rebuilt, rocking chair porch.

So often the heart of the home, this kitchen is a triumph. The use of space is clever, maximizing storage space, like shelving for cookbooks and a slot for trays and cutting boards in the large island, allowing for the marble counters to remain uncluttered. Case in point are the deep pull out pantry drawers under the stairs, and the wonderful wet bar/coffee station tucked behind cabinet pocket doors that slide away. Two SubZero fridges (one large and one half size) behind integrated doors to the right of that coffee station, along with the Wolf stove and Bosch dishwasher, are indicators of the high quality appointments made throughout the house.

The roomy living room features plenty of space for seating, with an additional, cozy area near the glass-fronted wood stove. Fun fact: That “painting” on the wall with the ornate frame is a Samsung Frame television. On the far side of the central stairs is the dedicated dining room, with wainscoting and a mahogany door out to the wraparound porch.

One of the final flourishes made to the property was making the potting shed a totally fabulous home office, complete with radiant floor heat, a teeny wood stove and maintaining the plant-friendly end of the room which enjoys southern exposure.

The owners had planned on creating a patio, and there is plenty of bluestone that will be left for the buyer. Also, the field out back includes a number of springs. It would seem that adding a pond would be an easy and significant enhancement to the grounds.

Fremont Farmhouse is just 15 minutes to Callicoon, Jeffersonville and Roscoe.
