Hidden Meadow Lodge: Monticello, NY
About The Property
Hidden Meadow Lodge was gut renovated in 2016 and thoughtfully redesigned as a destination property, featuring a super-cool outdoor Pavilion that provides a stylish, multi-faceted entertainment space, separate from the already fabulous four bedroom house.
The lengthy driveway (over a 1/4 mile long) is flanked by forest before opening up to lawn surrounding the house, including a huge multi-acre meadow, punctuated by a number of graceful, mature trees.
The entrance foyer serves as a place to drop your outdoor gear, but also sports an old bar salvaged from a nearby house. Pull up a bar stool and watch the game on the corner TV. This is where the party starts.
The new kitchen has an abundance of granite counters, a Bertazzoni gas range that will please the chef, and storage galore. While there is a full dining room (ideally suited to large gatherings), there is also a built-in breakfast nook near the kitchen, and a cozy corner with two facing sofas for more intimate conversation.
Beyond the kitchen is a laundry room with front loading washer and dryer, slop sink, and a side door that leads out to the Pavilion (more on that later). There is also a beautifully tiled modern bathroom with soaking tub and walk in shower.
The stone fireplace is the focal point of the living room, which has ample space for secondary seating. Downstairs things can get rowdy in the colorful TV/rec room, where there is a second wood-burning fireplace and an external door.
The house has four bedrooms: On the ground floor, off the dining room, this bedroom currently has a full size day bed as well as a television. Upstairs, there is a queen bed, a bedroom with two twins, and a large master, currently with king size bed, seating area, spacious walk-in closet, and a sliding "barn door" into the shared bathroom, which has a tub/shower.
Heading outside, the property really shines as a playground for all ages. Set on 16+ acres, there is an enormous, level meadow for your ultimate frisbee or football games, and there are woods to be explored. (Yes, it is crying out for a wonderful swimming pool, and that is certainly an option.)
But the piece de resistance clearly is The Pavilion: The owner created a fun, versatile space where guests can gather from spring through October and enjoy the full complement of amenities: The outdoor kitchen with gas stove, refrigerator, gas grill and cupboards ready for all your favorite foods means you'll cook out here at least as much as in the house. The beautifully-designed bluestone patio and lounge area is as appealing for quiet reading time, as for cocktail hour with lively conversation. Year round the custom fire pit, surrounded by Adirondack chairs is without question the go-to place after dark, and the hot tub is also a major draw any time of year. During the non-winter months, a handy double shower and water closet is a handy convenience. For a little friendly competition, there is a regulation size horseshoe pit; harder than you think. And the three hammocks (seriously comfortable) serve up relaxation in the tranquility of this impressive property.
There is a striking old metal barn in the meadow, currently used for storage, but certainly an opportunity for a creative upgrade. Perhaps an industrial style pool house for the new pool? Or a great spot to get the band together for a jam.
Hidden Meadow Lodge was a successful vacation rental with Red Cottage Inc. before becoming a year round rental. Income and other details available upon request.
