Porcupine Hill Cabin: Hurleyville, NY

About The Property

Tucked privately on the top of a hill and surrounded by a beautiful forest in Sullivan County, Porcupine Hill Cabin is the quintessential log cabin in the woods. Hand built by its previous owner and lovingly maintained, this is a move-in ready, cute and cozy getaway ready for its next chapter.

Enter the home through the side entrance, and you are immediately greeted by the light-filled great room. An open floor plan, vaulted ceilings, and oversized windows give the space a generous scale, and yet the wood clad walls and floors make sure it still feels plenty cozy. An open kitchen and dining area on the far side of the home and a den to the left of the entrance make the great room a perfect place to spend your day. The centerpiece of the room, the Vermont Castings wood stove, is perfectly capable of heating the whole home on a snowy winter's night and providing all the #cabinvibes you could ever want; but of course there is electric heat throughout the house, so the wood stove is there as supplementary heat.

At the rear of the house is a coat closet, full bathroom, and two bedrooms. The bathroom has a built-in tub/shower combo, and a small storage area for towels and linens,[while the larger of the two bedrooms can accommodate a king bed, dresser and more. Two large windows allow for plenty of light, and the exposed wood joists overhead lend lots of character to the space. On the left side, a smaller bedroom houses a double bed comfortably, and also features two windows. The bedrooms share a closet between them.

Off the entryway is a wide staircase leading to an oversized loft space overlooking the great room. Usable as an extra bedroom, den, office, lounge or really whatever you can come up with, the space offers plenty of flexibility.

In warmer weather, step directly out of the great room onto your 16x24 ft. deck for outdoor entertaining and relaxation.

The cabin also features a full height, walkout basement. Offering plenty of storage, and the potential for finishing, the basement makes this house feel much larger than the footprint might imply. The current owner stores two ATVs down here and has a double door leading directly outside the home and on to the property's extensive trails which would be great for hiking, snow shoeing, and x-country skiing.

If recreation is of interest, the 43 acres of woods, rock formations and a stream provide boundless opportunity. The house is set tightly among the trees, but the property is level and could easily be cleared to make for more open space and mountain views if that was of interest.

Porcupine Hill Cabin is 10 minutes from Hurleyville which features the Hurleyville Arts Centre: a movie theater and performing arts space, La Salumina, a new italian salumeria and grocery, Hurleyville General Store, and the ever-popular Hurleyville rail trail for walking and biking. And for the outdoor enthusiasts, Porcupine Hill Cabin is only 5 minutes from kayaking in the Neversink Reservoir, and a short 30 minute drive to the best hiking in the Catskills on Slide Mountain and Giant Ledge.
