About The Property
You don’t have to know a lot about trees or gardening to appreciate the stunning landscape that wraps around this 1920s Arts + Crafts home. The high canopies of majestic maples create a parklike setting, while the many and varied blooming perennials, and magnolia and dogwood trees, are simply enchanting. Maple Hill is just a stone’s throw from the little hamlet of White Sulphur Springs, yet existing in its own peaceful idyll, set back from the road up a gentle hill. This property offers gracious living in a wonderfully central location.
The house benefits from numerous updates and renovations, starting with the kitchen, which has been entirely reimagined, with a generous island, butcher block countertops, tasteful tiling, new appliances and a vibe that is consistent with the warmth and impressive wood detailing throughout the house. The roof and most of the windows are new (Pella), while the new Andersen French doors allow natural light to pour into the dining area of this open plan space.
The living room features a cast iron wood stove, and detail typical of the Arts + Crafts style. An elegantly framed cased opening onto the hall has rich, handcrafted woodwork and is flanked by glass-fronted display cabinets with mullioned doors, which complement the oak floors throughout.
Upstairs are three bedrooms and a full bathroom. The primary bedroom is spacious with three large windows along the front wall, and has an alcove that is currently used as their TV nook.
The bathroom is now larger than its original design, and has been thoroughly renovated with new tile around the tub/shower and smart-looking fixtures.
The well-lit basement is useful for general storage, and houses the washer and dryer.
Anecdotally, in the time I spent at this delightful property for the photo shoot, I found myself grabbing a seat in numerous appealing spots, whether it was around the café table on the covered front porch, a shady seat by the side entrance where the lily of the valley grows in profusion, or under the tall maples looking out at the neighboring pond or, possibly my favorite perch, sitting on the steps outside the kitchen in full sun, admiring the peonies, weigela and lilacs.
The property borders on a pretty, winding waterway that attracts a wide range of birdlife, from eagles to herons, and can be seen and enjoyed from the house and the lawn.
The simple red barn serves mostly as a structure for storage (wood, mower, kayaks, etc.), but it has electric and a worktable. And really just its charming appearance adds to the combined package that makes Maple Hill a captivating Upstate property.
White Sulphur Springs is under 15 minutes to popular spots like Livingston Manor and Jeffersonville.
